Army of Evil

Title: Army of Evil by Adrian Weale

Category: Nonfiction, War World II

Review: This is a really good book. This book discusses the beginning and end of the SS, which was part of the Nazis. It was considered an army and an opponent to the SA. Adrian Weale did a very good job discussing the history of those involved from the beginning, the creation of the SS. For example, Heinrich Himmler. He then discusses the SS throughout the years until the final year which is 1945. One of the most important things he discusses is the concentration camps and the genocide. I have read several WWII books that have discussed a little about the SS, but this is a full history on the SS and I believe you will enjoy it.

  1. I need to build a library of WWII nonfiction. I keep coming to the conclusion that although we’re surrounded by things of this war (Nazis, communists, fascists, concentraton camps are part of everyday language) we don’t actually know the war deep enough. Do you have other recommendations?

There are certain authors that I keep going back to because of their writing. They have excellent books. Stephen E. Ambrose is one. Another is Antony Beevor. Rick Atkinson is another good author to read. If you want to find out more about the concentration camps, Auschwitz: A Doctor’s Eyewitness Account is good to read. Another good author is Max Hastings. I hope I helped. These authors are some of the best in my opinion. Especially Stephen Ambrose. I keep going back to him because of his writing. It is just so interesting. Good luck!
